Enabling a life of full potential
Sanket Foundation is a registered charitable trust that works with the deaf and hard of hearing in India. It aims to enable the deaf to realize their full potential and help them lead lives of inclusion and opportunity in the mainstream.
Our Work
There are 18M deaf and hard of hearing people in India who combat a variety of oppositions in life-in education, access, communication and in opportunities.
There is a variety of literature documenting the frustrations that deaf and hard of hearing Indians encounter while trying to improve their quality of life. Main reasons for stereotyping and exclusion of the community are: stigma, ignorance, and language barriers.
Our Aim
We remove barriers to achievement by working towards language access, education, and advocacy efforts, under a single umbrella.
An initiative that empowers the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in India to realise their full potential by developing a multifaceted approach to address their needs. Though our focus remails on working towards language access, education and advocacy efforts, we complement our efforts, under a single umbrella by providing related services.
Language and Literacy Programmes
Sanket Foundation’s Learning Centre is an after-school language and literacy programmes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Led by a team of deaf instructors and special educators, we use an accessible and collaborative approach to provide the highest level of instruction for the students within the classroom setting.
Our diverse, bilingual (English and Indian Sign Language) classrooms provide an environment of inclusion where we recognize and respect all spectrum of deafness and communication preferences and modalities, whether spoken or signed. We provide accessible teaching tools that we believe of the best fit to each individual.
Our approach
Our approach builds the strongest possible foundation in language and literacy skills, and our goal is for our students to be as soon as possible on a trajectory to compete on a level playing field with their peers in all areas of development including language and literacy, thereby laying foundation for success and better quality of life in later years.
